The medical exam
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008It has been a bit more than a week ago since I had my medical exam at the consulate’s doctor to see if I am fit enough to get a visa and don’t have any weird diseases. I didn’t post about it last week but because I, a bit more than a week, did not hear anything from the doctor, I now know for sure that I passed it and am OK
It may sound a bit weird, if you do not hear a thing for a week, then you know it is ok.. but this is exactly how it is. I think they needed a week because of the blood research and the x-ray (which has to be taken at a different location), I can’t make something else out of it because the rest of the results will be recorded by the doctor himself. It doesn’t matter, though, I have been approved for my medical!
The visit at the doctor was pretty well. I had the appointment at 11 AM and arrived at around 10.45-10.50 AM. There was a couple in the waitingroom and later on it turned out that they both won a greencard in the DV lottery and that they were there both for the medical as well.
At almost 11 AM I was called for the first part of the examination and I had to take place near the assistent so they could take some blood from me for the HIV test and so they could check on my previous vaccinations and could decide if I needed any more vaccinations. It turned out I only needed the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps and rubella), I already had a vaccination for one of these diseases but I still needed to get the rest and so I had to get the whole vaccine since it was a cocktail. When this part was over, I could go back to the waitingroom to wait until the area of the doctor himself would be available for the rest of the examination.
After a small wait, I think about 5 to 10 minutes in total, I was asked to enter the examination room of the doctor where he would ask me some questions about my medical past. After this he would listen to my lungs, heartrate, stumache, he did some stuff with my belly, looked at my eyes, he measured my length and weight and did some more standard checks.
It was not that much if you ask me. I am happy it was like that because I did not know what to expect.. I had a medical examination once before but that was a lot bigger than this one (still with a good result). After this I could dress myself and had to pay € 155.00 for the examination and € 40.00 for the vaccine, and after I paid the total amount, I had to go towards the place in Amsterdam where they would take the x-rays of my lungs for a test on TB.
This other place was fairly close, it was a walk of about 10 minutes, and since it was nice weather, I walked there. When I arrived, I had to stand topless in front of the machine while the nurse would made the necessary adjustments on the x-ray machine. I think the nurse lost more time in adjusting the device than she needed to make the actual picture because it was over in a second. Afterwards I had to pay another € 50.00 and was told that I the x-rays would be send to the doctor of the consulate by them.
I didn’t lose much time that day since everything went really smooth, all I lost was 245 euro haha. Oh well, I’m already happy when I can get to my fiancee.
On a different note; I have been looking around for rings and I think I may have found a nice pair. Michelle has seen them as well and liked them too. I think I might buy them next week
Right, now on to August 12 for the actual interview and hope that everything goes really well ![]()
