But is that really true or is it only said because they don't want to create a panic situation?

Thing is, for example, that various renowned radiation experts speak different about this. Number of times it has also been said that the Japanese government is not letting the rest of the world now how bad it really is, it seemed to have been much worse than they told everybody.

Also, when looking back at Chernobyl, Europe still has trouble with the food there. In Germany and the UK there are still strict laws regarding certain food as they still need to be checked on radiation levels. Chernobyl was also pretty far away (although not as far as Japan is, that much is true), and the number of people with cancer and birth problems (fatalities, down syndrome, etc) was also much higher after Chernobyl happened.

Now they did find higher levels of radiation in the US but who is to say if the numbers were not manipulated? It could be worse than they want people to know, it wouldn't be the first time governments lie about these things to the residents of their countries.

All these things do raise some questions to me. However, as for Hawaii, I feel a bit more secure since I have seen the models of the jet streams and they tend to miss Hawaii by a pretty great distance. If it was still winter, then the jet stream would have gone more South, over Hawaii but, thankfully, this is not the case.

Another thing that kind of worries me is the contaminated seawater that went back into the ocean. They said that the debris of the tsunami might arrive in Hawaii in about 18 months, so this would be the same for the contaminated seawater. Now I understand that the ocean is very big and that it (the nuclear waste water) all gets spread out over the whole ocean and that this poses very little risk, but there are fish in that area which also migrate back and forth between Japan and Hawaii which might then become contaminated. Fish is a major food source here in Hawaii and, this too, could cause for some unfortunate problems.

I'm not saying it's not true, I'm just a bit skeptical to it all.

All the available information indicates weather conditions have taken the small releases from the Fukushima reactors out to sea away from the population. Given the thousands of miles between the two countries, Hawaii, Alaska, the U.S. Territories and the U.S. West Coast are not expected to experience any harmful levels of radioactivity" (NRC News Release).

Lijkt me heerlijk maar inderdaad fattening.
